Binhi Inc. is an agri-research start-up company focusing on micropropagation. It was established in partnership with Small Business Corporation, a DTI charter. The lab operation started in November 2019 with banana and makapuno as the first crops to be micropropagated.

The lab operations, led by Dr. Glenn Gregorio, an Academician and plant breeding expert, and Dr. Aurora del Rosario, one of the pioneers of the tissue culture industry in the Philippines.

Plant Genetics and Breeding

     Dr. Gregorio is the current Director of Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA). He was a scientist-plant breeder at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) from 1986-2015 where he developed more than 15 rice varieties, most are salt-tolerant. In 2015, he moved to East-West Seed Company, Inc., and worked as a breeding manager for corn. In 2018, he returned to the Institute of Crop Science, College of Agriculture and Food Sciences (CAFS), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) as a Professor.

    Dr. Gregorio is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Academician title by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Outstanding Young Men, and Outstanding Young Scientist.

     He obtained his PhD in Genetics, MS in Plant Breeding, and BS in Agriculture at UPLB.

Tissue Culture and Horticulture

DR. AURORA  DEL ROSARIO

     Dr. del Rosario is one of the pioneers of tissue culture industry in the Philippines. She authored numerous publications as a Head Researcher at Palau Community College- Cooperative Research and Extension funded by US-AID.She also served as an Instructor to Associate Professor at the Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture and Food Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) from 1974 to 1999, specializing in tissue culture, horticulture and plant physiology. 

   Dr. Del Rosario worked as a consultant of three (3) private companies engaged in large scale or plantation scale production for the establishment of their tissue culture facilities. At the same time, she served as consultant for tissue culture and horiculture of five (5) agricultural schools, and three (3) government agencies. 

     She obtained her PhD in Horticulture, MS in Botany, and BS in Agriculture at UPLB.
